What: The Circle of Crafts
When: Fridays, 11 am -13 pm
Where: Forest Heights Hall in Mary Finley Park, 10150-80 St. (half a block North from the corner of 101 Ave and 80 St – it is in the middle of the residential area) If in trouble call Violeta 780-244-3397
Ages: 5 to 95. Siblings younger then 5 are welcome.
Come to
explore the history of crafts around the world,
celebrate the year's cycle in nature and cultures with the seasonal
projects
master different traditional techniques (weaving, plaiting, knitting,
sewing, folding, etc.) and use of traditional materials (everything from
nature around us as well as paper, fabric, leather, yarn, etc)
learn to make many fun, useful and beautiful things: some would be your
everyday household articles, others would serve as decorations and presents
(this is a wonderful alternative for gift shopping!),
connect your creative spirit to the spirit of nature,
get back in touch with the craft skills that were central to survive in
earlier times,
become the spirit inherent in the handmade.
Every session begins with a circle time: exploring the project/media,
discussing the origin, history and cultural aspects of the craft ahead,
listening and making stories. It is vital to be on time not to miss this important part of the class.
We are planning to diversify the projects by-
offering few projects from easy to hard in each session (you may start
with easy and progress to the more complicated level, or jump forward if it
feels too easy, or you may just do the easy one and enjoy it)
use different media for the same theme,
create different projects for the same media,
explore different ways to make the same project,
target the projects for both boys and girls (birds and dragons,
butterflies and spiders, fairies and monsters, girl and boy dolls)
You would get as much attention from us as you need to get in touch with
your own creativity: from step by step instructions to absolute freedom.
Materials would be provided.
Cost:

Who we are:
Nadia Ivanchikov is a homeschooling mom of 4 children, a certified
teacher, a homeschool facilitator and genuine art and craft lover from
Russia. Throughout her teaching career Nadia has taught crafts in schools,
community projects and summer camps. Nadia enjoys crafting at home wit her
children and would like to offer her expertise to other families .
Violeta Levandauskiene is a mom of three children. The youngest - Zen
(13) is a wonderful co-traveller in a journey of learning and living
together. The beginning of her teaching experiences goes quite back both in
time and place (Europe, end of 20th century) and enrichment of that
experience happens all the time through different circles of adults and
children ( educational and museum carriers, creation of and participation in
folk groups, crafts, primitive skills, eco - spiritual camps and projects)
